when he was living in east germany, dean reed, with the parra family, made a movie about the life of victor jara. i saw it, and it was not very good, and being in german made it worse, but it doesn’t really matter, because America broke and killed the singer dean reed like it broke and killed victor jara, and it broke and killed the GDR like it broke and killed popular chile. but we did it in a far more sinister manner, so that the evidence of the killing was swept away and so that all we can see is the inevitable crumbling of an unpopular and insidious dictatorship, even while most former east germans are living cramped, dead-end lives, forced into welfare so they can’t bring their communist politics into civilized democratic society, wanting to go back and completely powerless to do anything about it

what’s even cooler is how all these former communist people are seen as subhuman, stupid and evil. my german friends are never shy about talking how all the neo nazis come from east germany because they are stupid. russians are degraded and eastern europeans too. seen as sly scumbags. why can’t they just get wiht the times. they don’t even hate them for ideological reasons anymore it’s been stripped away of all lies and now the slavs are subhuman again.
